SPECIAL AWARD CATEGORIES

  1. Photojournalism / Single Capture – Photojournalistic photos are ‘documentary’ or ‘story-telling’ in nature. They are candid, unposed photos of the wedding as it really happened. All images must have been found, not created. The photographs must be unposed and without the intervention of the photographer. The image has been observed, not fabricated or created in any way by the photographer. If the photographer asks or directs someone to stand or sit in a particular location or pose, this would be considered ‘created’ and should be entered in another more relevant category. The entry must be single capture images with no retouching that materially affects the authenticity of the ‘document’. Traditional adjustments for exposure, contrast and colour are permitted. If your entry is deemed unsuitable for this category, the Committee reserves the right to either disqualify your entry or move it to a more appropriate category.
  2. From Above  – A photograph taken from the perspective ‘from above’ the subject within the photograph – this can include photographs taken by drones as well as hand held cameras. It also includes from fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. (or trees, off the side of buildings, rooftops etc. ) Can be from a chopper, building, ladder, imagination and gravity are the only limitations.
  3. Black and White – A B&W photograph has no color. Black, White and every shade of grey in between. Toning is permitted.
  4. Epic Location / Destination – A wedding or elopement photograph that you feel fits the bill of Epic. Adventurous and grand, awe inspiring scenery.
  5. Solo Portrait – A portrait of any singular person attending the wedding, taken on the wedding day.
  6. Dance Floor / Party Time – Celebrating the release and relief of the big day that Weddings generally are, this category is all about the party, the dance, the fancy reception and everyone celebrating an epic wedding day. It can include any part of the Reception, from sparkler exits and fireworks displays,  to dance floor antics to all-in wedding night pool parties..pretty much anything goes, as long as it’s from a wedding day.
  7. Bridal Party –  It can be a struggle to create a unique and memorable perspective with the whole Bride Tribe / Bridal Party so this category is all about the Bridal Party. A bridal party consists of the wedded couple with their attendees (bridesmaids and or groomsmen) It does not have to include them all, it may be only the bride and her maids, or the groom and his groomsmen, but needs to be more than just the bride and groom only.
  8. Couples – A couple portrait includes bride & groom, bride & bride or groom & groom together in the same image. There is no boundary on whether it is a close up of the couple or a wide landscape with them within it, it just needs to be “the couple” who’s wedding day is being celebrated.
  9. Pre/Post Non-Wedding Day shoot or Engagement Shoot – Entries to this category are for those shoots undertaken for clients before or after a wedding day, or as an Engagement Session. The couple must be a real couple, not models hired for a styled shoot for editorial / advertising purposes.
