The Emerging Artists of the Year award celebrates exceptional talent among photographers with five or fewer years of business in Wedding or Elopement photography. Awarded to the highest-scoring entries that meet this criteria, it recognises creative vision, technical excellence, and the unique storytelling ability of rising stars in the industry.

Should I enter the Emerging Artist Category?

You don’t actually “enter” this category. When submitting your entries to the other 11 entry categories you will come to a check box that asks if you have been deriving income from wedding or elopement photography as a business. This can be part-time while working another job, but essentially if you are treating your photography as a business of any kind and you or in your 5th year or less, then you qualify automatically with any entries you submit to the Awards.

I've been photographing other kinds of photography for 10 years but just started shooting weddings, do I qualify?

Absolutely! We want to encourage talented artists and photographers from different genre’s to embrace the wedding and elopement photography industry. You’ve got a lot of skill if you’ve been working in other areas of the photography world, so you have various skills that will set you up to be a great wedding photographer, and we’d love to see your take on it all!

I've been working for another photographer as their second shooter for 6 years, but more recently I've started my own business and want to submit images I took under my new business, do I qualify?

Yes. You have invested time and energy learning from another photographer. They’ve paid you to perform a service for them and for their client, not yours.  You can’t submit images you took while working for them, but you can certainly submit new work captured captured under your own brand and you would be eligible for the Emerging Artist
